NayStation Owners' News For June 2010
Another Month has zoomed right on by. Here we are at the end of May, looking at the setting of the
Southern Cross, while watching Scorpius rising in the evening. We were unable to see either of these
Constellations at night in Washington DC. Unless cloudy or moon lit, the night sky up here at 3500 feet
elevation is remarkable.
Although it was only 61 degrees the other morning, it does feel like summer has finally arrived. We
continue to expand the garden, and most recently harvested the first of our sweet potatoes (Okinawa
purple) and it was a large tasty one! We have a lot of ripening Roma tomatoes, Jalapeño peppers, Poha
berries and a few figs. Unfortunately, a pair of Kalij Pheasants have discovered the garden and are
eating everything except the peppers. Actually, they only eat the gushy insides. Needless to say, these
Pheasants are some of the largest, most robust specimens, we have seen yet. Although Ginger (the
little red dog), is valiantly herding them off the property at every opportunity, we have been looking at
roast pheasant recipes J
Mother’s Day High Tea was a great success and we look forward to a hearty Father’s Day BBQ Buffet.
You can have all the good stuff, without having to cook. Most of our Dads would highly approve of any
menu that included ribs!
We will have to keep a sharp eye of the price of shrimp and other seafood, due to the horrific situation in
the Gulf of Mexico. Although there is a lot of local fish, this incident will affect prices world-wide. It is
anticipated that the cost of shrimp will triple. This is unfortunate, since shrimp dishes are such popular
items here at The NayStation.
For those of you that attended the recent Murder Mystery Theater at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church…Yes,
those are the same soft bread sticks on the menu for June 26th. We got SOO many compliments, we
immediately added them to the repertoire.
We look forward to seeing your family and friends from the mainland this summer. We are happy that
many of you include a NayStation dinner as part of your vacation itinerary each year.
John has been called by the Census, and is starting work as an Enumerator. It is short time temporary
work, however, ANY work at $17 per hour and $.50 per mile is good work right now. THANK YOU,
LORD.
